Olympia l’Liou-Perry, MLS, CLTC, doesn’t believe in standing on the sidelines, especially when it comes to making our communities better for all citizens. As a councilwoman for Lawrence Township, she advocates for fair and balanced government. As a licensed financial professional, she helps people manage their investment and insurance needs. As a nonprofit Board President, she leads by the beliefs that inspire her to “be the change she wants to see in the world.”
Olympia first got involved with The Father Center of New Jersey after meeting CEO Emeritus Karen Andrade-Mims at the church they both attended. She was drawn to the mission of The Father Center to help fathers meet the responsibilities of fatherhood. She suggested that a financial literacy course would be a critical extension to other life skills programming.
“I wanted to do something to help people coming back into society. I realized that many of them didn’t have bank accounts. Through a financial literacy program, we could show them all the things they need to do (to manage their day-to-day finances),” she explains. “Developing the financial literacy program was a labor of love for me, and I have stayed engaged with the organization over the years, even teaching some of the classes.”
Olympia loves seeing the organization increase its impact by expanding into more communities across the state. She recognizes that the programming of The Father Center of New Jersey has become a model for many other organizations.
“Most of all, I love that The Father Center of New Jersey is helping men and giving them hope. In my life, I want to teach hope. Even if it is just giving someone the simple ability to prepare their resume in the proper format. I care so much about the work of The Father Center, and I am honored to be a member of their Board.”
