Position Summary
The Father Center of New Jersey is seeking a mission-driven Development & Communications Coordinator to support the organization’s fundraising, storytelling, and external engagement efforts. This role plays a critical part in strengthening our ability to grow resources, deepen relationships with supporters, and communicate the life-changing impact of our work with fathers and families.
This role is structured to dedicate approximately 80% of its capacity to development and communications and 20% to executive and board coordination. This position is ideal for a highly organized, motivated professional interested in nonprofit development, community impact, and executive-level operations.
Key Responsibilities
Development & Fundraising (Primary Focus)
- Coordinate comprehensive fundraising campaigns and donor engagement initiatives.
- Manage donor records, process acknowledgments, and meticulously track engagement activities within the donor database.
- Draft and prepare grant proposals, reporting, and necessary documentation.
- Facilitate donor meetings, cultivation opportunities, and stewardship activities alongside the CEO.
- Track and analyze fundraising progress, providing regular updates to leadership.
Marketing & Communications
- Coordinate with our external Marketing agency to manage social media strategy and distribute press releases.
- Maintain website updates and oversee broad digital communications.
- Promote organizational events, programs, and community partnerships to increase visibility.
Board & Executive Coordination (20% Focus)
- Prepare and distribute board meeting materials, agendas, and presentations.
- Manage logistical coordination for board and committee meetings, including scheduling and maintaining organized records/minutes. Note: This requires occasional evening availability to attend and support board meetings and other engagements.
- Coordinate strategic scheduling and select meetings for the CEO, specifically those related to development, board affairs, and external partnerships.
- Drive follow-up items and action plans stemming from board meetings and donor outreach.
Confidentiality Expectations
Due to the nature of this role and its proximity to the CEO and Board of Directors, the Coordinator will have access to highly confidential organizational information, including donor data, board communications, and internal strategy. The individual in this role is expected to maintain strict confidentiality, handle sensitive information with absolute discretion, and exercise sound judgment at all times. Maintaining this trust is essential to the integrity of the organization and the success of this position.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or a related field.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Superior organizational abilities with a proven track record of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- A strong, demonstrated interest in nonprofit fundraising, storytelling, and community impact.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and WordPress.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Givebutter, Canva, or similar donor databases and design tools.
- Prior experience in nonprofit development, grant writing, or corporate communications.
