When scientist, writer and editor Surabhi Dangi-Garimella established her consulting business, her goal was to blend her scientific expertise and passion for healthcare strategy and communications with her desire to support nonprofit organizations.
“After a decade as an academic cancer researcher, I wanted to find a way to use my healthcare background to give back,” she says. After taking NonProfitConnect’s board training program, she pursued opportunities that aligned with her own mission to help patients and caregivers navigate their healthcare (and life) journeys.
It was around this time, in 2019, that she met CEO Emeritus Karen Andrade-Mims at a meet and greet at the end of her BoardConnect training hosted by NonProfitConnect, and learned about The Father Center of New Jersey. Surabhi was especially inspired by the organization’s mission to help men become better fathers, and joined the committee of the 2020 Platinum Dads celebration.
She is excited about the future of The Father Center of New Jersey and the chance she will get to make an impact. “Every year since I joined the Board in 2020, the organization has grown,” she continues. “Being a part of the Board at The Father Center of New Jersey helps me support a better future for the children in our state.”
